@  GHSA RULES CLINICS - GHSA Boys and Girls Lacrosse Clinics are now available online.  Go to http://www.ghsa.net/rules-clinic-schedules before February 15 to receive credit for watching the course.  In order to receive clinic credit, you must watch the entire presentation and answer all quiz questions correctly. Once the presentation ends, you will be presented with a form that you must fill out and submit to receive clinic credit. If you close or nagivate away from the clinic page while the presentation is playing, the presentation must be viewed again starting from the beginning.

@  CANCER AWARENESS WEEK - In observance of cancer awareness week, the GHSA will allow schools to wear “pink” uniforms at their HOME events during the week of April 9-14. This ruling holds true for ALL spring sports being played during this time period.  If a school does NOT have a home contest that week, it may request to wear pink at a home contest either the week prior to or the week following April 9-14. Schools should contact their GHSA sports coordinator with this request.  The home team must inform the visiting team that pink uniforms will be worn, and the visiting teams must wear their normal “dark” uniforms at these events.

@  SANCTIONING EVENTS - For questions regarding event sanctioning from the GHSA, please refer to section 2.64 in the GHSA White Book.  Any tournament that is being held for four or more participating teams, either at the varsity or sub-varsity level, must be sanctioned.  Sanctioning forms are available on the GHSA web site and should be available from your school AD.

@  AREA TIE-BREAKERS - Each Area shall have a written tie-breaker procedure in order to seed teams for the playoffs.  An Area may choose to use the GHSA tie-breaker procedure as follows:
     1. Winning percentage against all teams in the Area
     2. Head-to-head competition among the teams that are tied
     3. Goals allowed in head-to-head competition between teams that are tied
     4. Goal differential in head-to-head competition between teams that are tied (maximum of 10 goals per game).
     5. Goals allowed in all Area games
     6. Goal differential in all Area games (maximum of 10 goals per game).
     7. Winning percentage against all teams in the same Lacrosse classification.
     8. At any point in the process where ties can be broken so that only two teams remain tied, consideration of head- to-head competition will be invoked. If the tie is completely broken for all teams involved at any step in the process, the tie-breaker process is completed

If the Area is subdivided, then the same tie-breaker procedure should be used for both subregions.

@  GIRLS LACROSSE WHITE BOOK ADDITION - For all varsity high school girls games in Georgia, regular season matches between teams of different Lacrosse classifications that are tied at the end of the regulation will end in a tie.  For teams of the same Lacrosse classification, overtime will be played according to overtime rules published by US Lacrosse and endorsed by the NFHS.  The teams will play two (2) overtime periods of three (3) minutes each.  If the score is tied at the end of the second overtime period, a third overtime period will be played and the first team to score will be declared the winner.  This format will also be used in all tournaments where advancement is necessary.

@  SCORE REPORTING - Once all schedules are set and officials have been assigned, all coaches should verify that their entire varsity schedule is up-to-date and accurate on the Georgia PrepCountry web site.  That is the only site that the GHSA will use to determine playoff seedings.  Make sure final scores are accurate because some of the playoff spots will go down to the final contest.

@  SUSPENDED GAMES - According to the GHSA White Book, lacrosse games played between teams in the same classification (area) must be played to completion unless a mutually agreeable decision is reached by both coaches.  There is no curfew on games with bad weather.  We should expect some rain in the next 10 days, and we are too short on umpires to cancel games that could/ should be played out.  It is possible that you could wait hours to get a game in if the weather is bad.  If teams fail to complete games before the end of the season and those games could determine playoff positioning, it could end up counting as a loss for both teams.

@  CONCUSSION AWARENESS AND MANAGEMENT - All high school coaches in all sports are encouraged to participate in the National Federation's free, on-line course dealing with head injuries with athletes. This outstanding session produced by the NFHS and its Sports Medicine Advisory Committee can be accessed at www.nfhslearn.com. The responsibility for diagnosing possible concussion and making decisions about the athlete’s return to play rests with the school personnel. This is true at practices and at games.  Coaches must be aware of the GHSA's updated position on concussion management which can be found at the following link:  http://www.ghsa.net/concussion-management-high-school-athletics.

@  LETTER FROM THE GHSA - Head coaches, school administrators, and booster club presidents should read this letter from the GHSA.  The letter discusses the relationship between school and non-school or club lacrosse teams.  No school should support any teams in the non-GHSA club league.  Varsity and sub-varsity teams must compete against other GHSA school teams.

@  GACA MEMBERSHIP -  With the beginning of the new school year, coaches are encouraged to register with the Georgia Athletic Coaches Association. There are a number of benefits available to all members. Every member receives $1,000,000 in general liability coverage. Member coaches will also receive recognition plaques and certificates when their team wins a championship.  Members are also eligible to receive discount registration at GACA Coaching Clinics.  Beginning this school year, all GACA member registration will be done online at the GACA web site, www.gacacoach.com.  The new registration procedure is short and simple.  Complete instructions are available on the site.

@  US LACROSSE MEMBERSHIP - Anytime is a good time to check that your US Lacrosse Membership is current and will stay valid throughout the season. Membership to US Lacrosse gives your players access to a number of opportunities for awards that they would not normally receive otherwise. Plus it gives you access to membership benefits including Lacrosse Magazine and the US Lacrosse comprehensive lacrosse insurance program for a full year.  To sign up or renew your membership, click on the link below.
